Speed & Coverage

Real-world download/upload speeds and network coverage breadth across the destinations travellers actually visit.

Why it is hard to measure

Speed is the dimension travelers feel first and complain about most, yet it is the hardest to measure honestly. A provider does not own towers; it resells access to local mobile networks, so its real-world speed is whatever partner network it lands you on in each country. The same eSIM can be excellent in Japan and mediocre in Mexico.

What a good provider looks like

Strong providers negotiate access to premium tier-one networks rather than whatever is cheapest, and they fall back gracefully when a primary network is congested. We weight the countries travelers actually visit, so brilliant coverage in a country nobody flies to does not inflate a grade.

How it feeds the score

This is the heaviest dimension at a quarter of the total score because connectivity that does not work makes every other feature irrelevant. Speed and coverage scores are paused while a replacement measurement source is wired in — affected entries render as Pending rather than guessed.

Measurement method

Median download/upload speeds across top tourist countries, weighted by traveler demand. Speed & Coverage data ingestion is currently paused while a replacement measurement source is wired in.
